FM-2 Wildcat
Erickson Aircraft Collection

The Grumman Wildcat was the first of the “cats” series of aircraft. The first protype in 1937, was redesign from an earlier Grumman biplane, the F3F. In 1939, an improved version went into production.
The British Royal Navy was the first to operate it. It was first used by the U.S. Navy and Marines when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in December 1941. The Wildcat continued to serve with the US until the end of war.
