PBY-5A Catalina
Soaring By the Sea Foundation

The PBY Catalina is the most famous seaplane in aviation history. It began with the protype of the Consolidated PBY Catalina in March 1935. It is a tough, dependable aircraft that proved itself during WWII by taking on bombing, reconnaissance, convey escort, transport, and anti-submarine warfare missions.
It was a Catalina that first spotted the Japanese fleet flying to attack Midway Island in 1942, helping the US win and creating a turning point in the war. Production ended in 1945, with about 4,000 Catalinas.
