The SBD Dauntless was considered obsolete even before the U.S. entered WWII. However, it proved itself to one of the most important dive-bombers flown during the war.

It sank more than enemy ships during 1942, than all other aircraft combined. It came to be known as “slow-but-deadly.” Overall production was 5,935, but few survive today.
