TBM Avenger
Erickson Aircraft Collection

This aircraft was designed to become the U.S. Navy’s primary torpedo attack aircraft and replace the Doulgas Devastator. The prototype was tested in in August of 1941, by Grumman. In 1942, due to an increase in demand, General Motors also began to produce the Avenger.
In total Grumman produced 2,293 and GM produced 7,546. Post World War II, the Avenger continued to serve with the U.S. and allied nations. The last Avenger was retired from Japanese service in 1962.
